Why India? - Foreign Direct Investment

Economic liberalization during the 21st century has generated sizeable inflows of Foreign Direct Investment. During the fiscal year ending 31st March 2007, this figure almost tripled to US$ 16 Billion from US$5.5 Billion the year before and the Indian Government expects it to double in 2008. Lehman Brothers refers to this benchmark as its "take off point": that is when consumer demand and businesses start to feed off each other and drive even more investment. This acceleration is expected to continue as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh maintains his stance on dismantling barriers to foreign investment and other curbs on industry.
